Inside the Story
Long before he became king, David was just a shepherd boy who spent his days watching over his father's sheep in the fields near Bethlehem. He was smaller than his older brothers, but he was already brave — used to protecting his flock from lions and bears with nothing but a sling and his trust in God.
When the Philistine army camped against Israel, a giant named Goliath stepped out every day to mock God's people, and no soldier dared to face him. David, sent to bring food to his brothers at the battle line, couldn't understand why grown men were so afraid of one man who defied the living God.
King Saul offered David his own armor, but David chose what he already knew — his sling and five smooth stones from the stream. He ran toward Goliath without fear, and with one stone and complete trust in God, the giant fell, showing that courage doesn't come from size, but from faith.
